Personal Statement

Marcela Farfan is an Assistant Professor and the Coordinator of the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology at Felician University in Lodi, NJ. Previous to this position she has been an adjunct professor since 2016. Her academic journey and professional focus have been deeply rooted in the exploration and understanding of diverse cultural dynamics within the mental health field. Her research interests and publications primarily center around the Latinx population, with a special emphasis on mindfulness practices and the profound impact of language in mental health care. This focus stems from the commitment to enhancing therapeutic approaches, instruments, and interventions that are culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate, aiming to address the unique needs of these communities and improve overall mental health outcomes. She has been practicing counseling since 2019. Dr. Farfan has provided workshops about mindfulness and the impact of immigration and the mental health of the Latinx community.
