About Felician University’s Online Nurse Practitioner Programs

Felician University offers CCNE-accredited, flexible online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs and post-Master’s certificates (PMC) with concentrations in:

  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
  • Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)

Our programs prepare advanced practice nurses to provide compassionate, evidence-based care across a variety of settings.

What It Means to Be a Preceptor

As a preceptor, you would have the opportunity to supervise and mentor graduate nursing students during their clinical rotations. This role offers you a chance to:

  • Help develop future nurse practitioners’ skills and confidence
  • Play a vital part in advancing the nursing profession

What Responsibilities Would You Have?

If you decide to become a preceptor, you would be expected to:

  • Provide direct supervision and support to students
  • Offer varied learning experiences related to the NP role and patient care
  • Guide students on your site’s policies and procedures
  • Coordinate clinical days and communicate scheduling updates
  • Support students’ skill development and professionalism
  • Help maintain accurate records of clinical hours
  • Provide timely feedback and complete evaluations
  • Report any concerns or issues to Felician faculty promptly

What Qualifications Do You Need?

To qualify as a preceptor for Felician’s online NP programs, you must:

  • Hold a current, unencumbered RN and APRN license in their state of practice
  • Maintain required collaborative agreements or protocols as an APRN per state regulations
  • Are board certified in your NP specialty (i.e., PMHNP, FNP)
  • Have at least one year of advanced practice experience
  • Have a passion for mentoring and supporting graduate nursing students

Preparing to Welcome Your Student

Before your student’s first clinical day, you would work together to review:

  • Shift schedules and clinical hours
  • Dress code and site policies
  • Parking, ID badge, and electronic health record (EHR) access
  • Expectations for professionalism and attendance
  • Clinical objectives provided by Felician faculty
  • Communication preferences for routine and urgent matters
