Dr. Marcel Kaganovskaya, DNP, FNP-BC, NP-C, PMHNP-BC, CCRN, VA-BC, FNYAM is an assistant professor in the Department of Graduate Nursing. He received his DNP from Wagner College, which focused on disaster preparedness. He obtained his MSN degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Wagner College. He also obtained his Post Master’s Certificate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He is dually certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner. In addition, he is certified as a Critical Care Nurse and Vascular Access Board Certified nurse. In the Past, he held certification as a Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse.
Dr. Kaganovskaya’s passion and research in vascular access has been published in various scholarly journals. He developed an educational training curriculum for Nurse Practitioners in Vascular Access, which has been adopted in the Department of Accident and Emergency of Tseung Kwan O Hospital in Hong Kong. His publications as a primary author are referenced around the world in the field of vascular access. Dr. Kaganovskaya actively practices as a Nurse Practitioner in the Department of Surgery in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In addition, he is the CEO and founder of Mindful Cognition, a psychiatric practice he founded focusing on access to care for various patients, including marginalized and youth. His passion is to provide care to underserved communities. He is the recipient of various grants including the Siler foundation grant and Geriatric Research Grants through the VA, focusing on frailty in surgical patients. He has developed and facilitated implementations of various Advanced Practice Provider integrations into surgical programs. He developed and led the first NP Vascular Access and Coordination Team at the VA. He is the Chair of the Advanced Practice Council providing impact to quality measures such as NP productivity improvements.
Dr. Kaganovskaya is the Director of legislative affairs for the Society of Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurses (SPAPN). He develops updates in NP advocacy in the field of mental health in NJ and assists with various bills for mental health including but not limited to, mental health youth advocacy, loan repayment, care reimbursement equity and advocacy for full practice authority for NPs in NJ. He is an active member of the NJ nursing leaders steering group committee focused on promoting full practice authority and was selected to testify to the senate health committee regarding full practice for NPs. Dr. Kaganovskaya continues to advocate for legislative affairs for NPs in NJ and meets with legislators regularly on behalf of SPAPN. He is also an editorial reviewer for the Advances in Skin & Wound Care Journal. At Felician University, he is an active member of the Graduate Studies Committee and integrates evidence-based practice into his academic courses.
